Update 0.7 — Action Economy

A real action economy in combat, proper spell slots, a redesigned character sidebar, premium storyteller models, and a batch of smaller improvements throughout.

Update 0.7 — Action Economy

Hey everyone!

This is a big one, with a lot of significant pieces landing together rather than one single headline feature. Here's what's in it:

  • Action Economy — combat now tracks actions and bonus actions properly, with clear indicators for what you have left on your turn
  • Spell Slots — casters track proper spell slots by level now, instead of freeform magic
  • Redesigned Character Sidebar — Items, Skills, and Spells all share a new, richer card and tooltip design
  • Premium Storyteller Models — unlock stronger AI storytelling with a new premium credit system
  • First Purchase Bonus — your first message pack or premium credit pack purchase comes with a bonus on top

Plus a reorganized account experience, 6-month billing, and a batch of smaller fixes and improvements below. Let's get into it.

Action Economy in Combat

Combat now tracks actions and bonus actions properly. During your turn you'll see a row of pips above the chat — squares for actions, diamonds for bonus actions — that fill and empty as you use them up, so it's always clear what you have left.

Skills that cost an action or bonus action are marked with the same shape right in the skill list, and limited-use skills (the ones that recharge on a short or long rest) show their remaining charges as small dots, with a recharge icon so you know when they come back. Skills are also sorted more sensibly now: active skills first, ordered by action cost, with passives at the bottom.

Spell Slots

Spellcasters now track proper spell slots by level instead of freeform magic. Your Spells tab shows a row of pips per spell level, so you always know exactly how many castings you have left before you need to rest.

Redesigned Character Sidebar

The Items, Skills, and Spells tabs got a full visual overhaul. Every item, skill, and spell now shares the same card design — an accent rail and icon tinted by rarity or type, with a consistent layout across all three tabs instead of each one looking different. Tooltips got the same treatment, with clearer, richer detail when you hover an item, skill, or spell. The Inventory tab is now labeled "Items" to match. For now they use emojis but we are working on a system to give them each unique images for your special items and skills.

Storyteller Models and Premium Credit System

There's a new way to unlock stronger AI storytelling: premium credits. Higher-end storyteller models are now selectable from chat settings for everyone (previously this was only visible in dev builds), each showing its cost in credits per turn. You can see right away whether you can afford a model based on your current balance.

Premium credits work alongside your regular messages rather than replacing them, all subscription plans grant a monthly allowance, and you can buy one-time premium credit packs that never expire. Your balance is broken down by source (subscription vs. pack) in the account panel, the same way message balances are.

First Purchase Bonus

Your very first message pack or premium credit pack purchase now comes with a bonus amount added on top, shown with a badge right on the pack card so you know it's there before you buy.

Reorganized Account & Chat Settings

Chat settings have been reorganized so your current adventure's info and your account info live together in one place, rather than being split between the sidebar and a separate menu. It should be quicker to check your message balance, buy more, or manage your subscription without leaving the flow you're in.

Billing Changes

  • 6-Month Plans — All plans can now be billed every 6 months for 15% off the monthly rate, in addition to monthly billing
  • Founders Sale Ended — the Founders Sale on Pioneer and Hero closed on August 22 as planned. If you subscribed before then, your locked-in rate is unaffected

Named Characters & NPC Status

You can now pull up a list of every previous party member you've met in an adventure right from the sidebar, instead of having to remember names to reference them. Companions who've left your party also get a status note now, explaining what happened to them.

Smaller Improvements

  • Character Creation Tweaks — starting a new adventure on 'A Farlands Odyssey' got a small rework to allow a bit more customization: you can now set your attributes and pick skill proficiencies yourself instead of them being decided for you, and a new summary step lets you review your class and loadout
  • Turns Played — your adventure list now shows how many turns you've played in each adventure
  • New Ambience Track — a new cavern/dungeon ambience track added to the ambience catalogue
  • Worlds Page Search — search worlds by name, tag, or creator, plus a "Newest Worlds" row to see what's fresh
  • Template Card Fixes — fixed sizing issues on adventure template cards
  • Campaign Summaries — a new campaign summary system is now running behind the scenes to help keep long adventures more consistent over time. It's not visible in the app yet while I keep tuning it, but a display and editing view is coming in a future update
  • Fixed a bug where some players were getting randomly logged out

Bug Fixes

Various other bug fixes and polish throughout, mostly shaken loose from playtesting. Thanks for all the reports!

What's Next

  • A survey will be coming out in a few days to see how we're doing. Feel free to give us your thoughts on what you still want to see, and any changes you haven't liked
  • NPCs created outside of joining the party
  • Continued polish on existing systems, including moving from simple icons to a richer image system for items, skills, and spells

Thank you for playing and thank you everyone who has supported the game so far! I'll keep working hard to make Farlands Odyssey a great experience and building out our community.

Thanks everyone!
